Job Summary: JeffCom 911 is recruiting to establish a continuous eligible list for Communications Officer--911 Dispatcher. Candidates who successfully complete all portions of the exam will be rank-ordered on an eligibility list that is valid for one year. We are an equal opportunities employer.

The complete testing and hiring process can take up to 3-4 months. Currently we are looking to fill two vacancies.

Dispatchers answer 9-1-1 and other non-emergency telephone systems in a multi-jurisdictional dispatch center, and perform radio dispatch of operational and emergency police, fire and medical calls for assistance, which involve performing a wide variety of computer transactions and records functions. Note: Requires shift work on a 24-hour, 7 day a week basis with variable days off and 3 month rotating shifts, as well as a 45-minute response time for emergency situations.

 Salary & Benefits: Entry Level, with no experience, starts at $18.74/hr, plus benefits; $27.17/hr at the top of the pay scale, plus benefits.

Experience and Training Requirements:

~ Two years of experience working with the public in a high-volume, customer-service environment where you provided detailed information and assisted with solving problems such as working in the public sector, social services or military experience would be helpful, but is NOT required. (911 dispatch experience is not required.)

~A typing certification is required to be submitted with the employment application.  JeffCom 911 will honor typing certificates issued within the last four years, and certified from a five (5) minute typing test with a minimum of 45 WPM (words per minute). A certification can be obtained from a worksource office at no charge.

~ Basic familiarity with personal computer and Windows based applications.

~ Successful applicants must pass background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological exam, and hearing exam prior to hire.

Other necessary requirements:

~ Work requires a normal range of hearing, speaking ability and vision, including the ability to distinguish between colors.

~ Employee must be able to report to the JeffCom 911 Communications Center within a 45-minute response time.

The application packet must contain the employment application, the supplemental questionnaire, and a certified typing test; incomplete applications will not be accepted.

Applicants will be screened on the requirements above and scheduled to take a press test and a video based skills test for dispatcher/call taker. Those who successfully pass these steps will be scheduled for an interview.


Examination process: 1) Certified keyboarding score of 45 wpm, 2) Press Test, 3) Skill-based computer test 4) Panel interview 5) Finalists must pass background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and pre-employment hearing exam.
